Text:        Romans 1: 1 - 7

1
Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and
set apart for the gospel of God—
2 the gospel he promised
beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures
3
regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a
descendant of David,
4 and who through the Spirit[a] of
holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God[b] by
his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.
5
Through him and for his name's sake, we received grace and
apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the
obedience that comes from faith.
6 And you also are among
those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.
7 To all in
Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace and
peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus
Christ.
Topic:       Whom do we belong to?

Paul begins the epistle by introducing himself to the Church at Rome. First, he calls himself a servant of Christ. A true servant of Christ will present the true
Christ. He will not preach another Christ or another Gospel. Then he goes on to identify himself as a chosen vessel of God called by God to preach the good
news of Jesus Christ. This good news was not planned by Jesus but was promised by God through his prophets. How do we know that? That is recorded in
God's word, the Bible. The good news is about Jesus Christ who is son of David by his entry into this world but is the Son of God according to the redemptive
plan of God. Jesus Christ's humanity is part of history and his divinity was demonstrated by God in Jesus' resurrection. The privilege of being an apostle for the
sake of Christ was given to Paul by God through Jesus. Paul's, in fact anybody's, apostleship has the twin goals of leading people of all nations to first believe in
and then obey the Gospel. Paul refers to the church in Rome as a congregation of people called by God to belong to Jesus Christ. God loves all and so calls
them to be his own people. Therefore, good news was preached to give an opportunity to all to become the children of God through Jesus Christ. Thus
attempts to brand Christianity a sect are untenable.

Prayer:

Father, thank you for the salvation, thank you for your Son Jesus Christ; protect me from any deception from the evil one; in Jesus' name I pray, Amen!

Think about this: To what extent do I belong to Jesus Christ?
